The first annual Burns reunion was held in 1977. Please join us on Saturday August 2, 2014 to celebrate the 37th anniversary of this special gathering. We'll have food, fun, and good company for an extra-special celebration of family connections and reconnections. Let's make this an extra-special reunion!
Gathering starts about 11:00 am for visiting and fellowship. We will dive in to a potluck barbecue picnic lunch around 12:00 noon. This year the Society will provide main dishes of barbecue chicken and pulled pork, along with buns, barbecue sauce (mild and hot), and coleslaw. As always, plates, silverware, tea (sweet and unsweet), ice and cups are provided. We welcome pot-luck side dishes such as such as sliced garden tomatoes, cantaloupe, deviled eggs, baked beans, desserts, or whatever you care to bring. Those travelling from a distance need not worry about bringing food -- there is always plenty.
Our venue is a little bit different this year, so be sure to check out the Location Details before you come.
Due to space considerations, the genealogical records will not be displayed this year. However, the Book of Memory will be shown for the first time since it was updated. The Book of Memory was started over 30 years ago to honor the memory of persons in the Burns line of descent (and their spouses) with a Memorial containing their name, dates of birth and death, and list of those who contributed to the Burns Historical Society in their memory. A few years ago, it was decided to add photos and information about the person being remembered so that memorials might be even more meaningful. While additional information is still needed for some, we are seeking photos, newspaper clippings, or other information to fill those gaps. Original photos and documents can be scanned and returned to anyone willing to share. A version of the Book of Memory is planned for the upcoming redesigned Burns Historical Society web site.
